Integrated Aviation Bird Detection & Repellent System — Phased-Array Radar + Ultrasonic Dispersal
Integrated Bird Detection & Repellent System | Airport Bird Strike Prevention | Haisen Global
Product Overview
The Integrated Aviation Bird Detection & Repellent System is a digital, data-driven platform that automates the entire detect → disperse → verify workflow for airport bird-strike prevention. It combines phased-array radar and dual-spectrum electro-optical (EO) detection with long-range ultrasonic and propane-cannon dispersal to deliver full-coverage, all-weather bird control across an airport's take-off and landing airspace.
An integrated bird detection and repellent system is an airport safety platform that automatically detects and tracks bird activity using radar and electro-optical sensors, then triggers acoustic and ultrasonic dispersal devices to repel birds from critical flight zones — shifting bird control from manual, intuition-based patrols to a centralized, data-driven operation.
Developed by Tianjin Xinlong Airport Technology (Haisen Global's parent company), the system mirrors the detection architecture used in airport FOD monitoring and low-altitude air defense, enabling a unified, sensor-fused view of runway-area safety.
The Bird Strike Threat
Bird strikes pose a serious and persistent threat to aviation safety worldwide. Approximately 36,000 bird strikes occur globally each year, resulting in economic losses of around USD 1.2 billion. According to accident-cause distributions, bird strike accounts for 43.26% of aircraft accidents — the single largest category, exceeding foreign-object damage (33.02%).
Bird strike frequency correlates with local ecology and flight volume, and activity peaks heavily at night (43%) and during the day (38%). Public reports over recent years document strikes involving civilian and military aircraft across the United States, Japan, Canada, and China. Between 1992 and 2008 alone, China's military aircraft suffered 20 serious flight accidents and 210 flight problems due to bird strikes, causing the loss of 18 aircraft and 12 pilots — a stark illustration of why modern bird control must be automated, measured, and continuous.
Product Advantages
What the System Does
- The platform builds a Digital Bird Hazard Control Platform for the airport, achieving three core goals:
- 1. Introduce automatic bird detection — Replace low-efficiency manual inspection with 24/7, all-weather, large-scale, high-precision detection using radar and electro-optical equipment.
- 2. Build an integrated detect-and-deter workflow — Connect the automatic detection system to the dispersal system in real time so birds are repelled from the take-off and landing path as soon as they are detected.
- 3. Establish a digital control platform — Unify bird-situation monitoring, ecological governance, operational management, and data analysis under "one-time planning, phased implementation," shifting bird control from intuition-based to data-driven.
Hawkeye Phased-Array Radar Series
The Hawkeye series provides all-weather, 24/7, long-range, airspace-wide detection and tracking. Using AI for target classification, it supports unmanned operation in complex urban, mountainous, and marine environments.
The radar uses an advanced software-defined architecture that deeply integrates AI and radar technology for rapid custom development — requirements definable, hardware reconfigurable, and software refactorable. Near, mid, and far-range configurations can be customized for complex scenarios.
Intelligent high-speed roller brush
Advanced structural design, excellent shock absorption and overall controllability. Humanized designs such as the automatic compensation function of the bristles, the automatic lifting function of the side car, and the vehicle speed linkage function improve the convenience of control.
Zpad intelligent control system
Integrated embedded controller, strong versatility, full Chinese interface, simple page, automatic identification of assistive devices, and single-person operation.
